TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Immigration Office will deport a Danish man Benjamin Holst who used to be a beggar in Bali and Surabaya, Indonesia. “He will be flown to Copenhagen,” the Office’s Surveillance and Enforcement Bureau chief Romi Yudianto told Tempo on Monday, September 19, 2016.
Romi said the Danish man Benjamin has been found guilty of violating imigration laws by misusing his tourist visa. “But the said person had misused it by begging on the street. It disturbed public order,” he noted.
Benjamin has been a hot topic following reports that he had been begging in Southeast Asian countries. In Indonesia, he was caught begging in Bali by exploiting his elephantiasis. Knowing that Bali Immigration Office wanted him, Benjamin fled to Surabaya.
His run ended when Surabaya Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel captured him Sunday while he was begging on a corner of Jalan Kayun, Surabaya. The arrest was made after the Satpol PP personnel received a report from Surabaya administration’s Command Center 112.
