Athletes Compete for Six Gold Medals in Judo Competition

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Judo competition of the National Sports Week XIX 2016 in West Java have commenced on Thursday, September 15, 2016. Athletes from 11 provinces will compete to win a total of six gold medals in the competition’s first day.
The six gold medals are split into three classes for male athletes and three classes for female athletes. The male division will be competing for the over 100 kg class, 90 kg to 100 kg class, and the 81 kg to 90 kg class. Meanwhile in the female division, the contested classes include over 78 kg, 70 kg to 78 kg, and 63 kg to 70 kg. Currently, the tournament has reached the semifinals.
The West Java province contingents expect to secure three gold medals from the event. "Today we set our target for three gold medals from the total of six gold medals available. We ask for the support and prayers from the people of West Java so that we can achieve our goal or even beyond that," said Arnold Silalahi, General Secretary of the Indonesian Judo Alliance (PJSI) provincial administration of West Java, as released in the PON XIX official website.
The Judo divisions will have 22 tournaments in total, meaning that athletes will compete for 22 gold medals in the particular sport branch.
