TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that the meeting between him and the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has agreed on the terms that the two nations will respect the ongoing legal proceedings on death row convict Mary Jane.
Jokowi said that Duterte respects the legal process in Indonesia and vice versa. "We have a clear legal process," he said.
In terms of the war against drugs, President Jokowi said the Philippines upholds law enforcement - as shown in Duterte's fierce approach against narcotics.
"Zero-tolerance, he said," said Jokowi.
Mary Jane is a death row convict, caught smuggling 5.7 kilograms of heroine on April 2010. Although she was scheduled to face the firing squad earlier this year, Mary Jane escaped death as there was a last minute updates on her case back in the Philippines - leading to reports that she was a mere victim of human trafficking.
