TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo highlighted issues on economic growth and inclusive economy in front of G20 member states. Jokowi hoped that G20 countries could cooperate to provide assistance in digital economy development for developing countries.
"Each economic policy [created by G20 member states] must have a solid and inclusive growth agenda," Jokowi said during his speech at the G20 Summit in Hangzhou International Expo Center, China, on Sunday, September 4, 2016.
Previously, Jokowi had discussed economic growth and inclusive economy with the United Nation (UN) Secretary General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development Queen Maxima of the Netherlands last Thursday, Septmber 1, 2016.
Financial inclusive is a policy aimed at improving access and public understanding on financial services and institutions, including banks, financing companies and capital instruments. Improving public access and understanding of financial services and institutions is expected to expand growth in various regions and close down the income gap.
Jokowi asserted that financial inclusive condition is far behind some of its neighbouring countries with only 21.8 percent of the total population has good understanding of financial services and instruments. Meanwhile, Malaysia and Singapore have an inclusive financial percentage of around 50 and 90 percent, respectively.
To increase economic growth and inclusive economy, President Jokowi urged G20 member states to intensify cooperation in fiscal policy, monetary, and structural reform.
As one of the countries with considerably high economic growth among other G20 members, Jokowi said that Indonesia is ready to take part in developing financial inclusive, and ready to show its commitment in maintaining a more open economy.
"Indonesia is committed to keep its economy open and competitive. I will strive to maintain an inclusive economy," Jokowi said.
