TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Employer’s Association of Indonesia (Apindo) advisory board chairman Sofjan Wanandi said 120 members of Apindo will soon participate in the tax amnesty program. He also ensured that the program will be a success.
“70 percent of the target of Rp1,000 trillion in repatriated funds will be achieved in September,” he said Wednesday at Apindo office building. Low rates have been a factor for businessmen to participate in the program, he said.
Sofjan, who is also one of the vice president’s expert staff, said businesses have been hampered by complex administrative procedures in repatriating their funds. They have to pay their debts in foreign banks and pay outsanding tax which the Tax DG Ken Dwijugeasteadi estimates at Rp57 trillion.
Moreover, he has bemoaned the performances of tax officials. “It could take one hour to serve one taxpayer, I can’t imagine what would happen if [taxpayers] flocked [to tax offices],” he said.
Sofjan bullishly said that he would personally encourage all Apindo members to participate in the program, citing that Apindo had made a survey which showed that 2,000 out of 10,000 of its members were willing to participate in the program.
