TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Army Strategic Reserves commander (Pangkostrad) Lieutenant General Edy Rahmayadi said he expect to compete with as many candidate as possible to run for chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). Edy has nominated himself as the PSSI chairman.
“For me, the more chairman candidate the better for the election process because it will add more options,” Edy said Tuesday at the Reserves Headquarters. One other candidate is General (Ret.) Moeldoko.
Reports said the former army chief of staff will run for chairman in the PSSI congress on October 17. “Pak Moeldoko reserves the right to run for chairman. He is my former commander and he has launched his own campaign, I have launched my own campaign, the competition must be fair,” he said.
The PSSI Election Congress will be held in Makassar, South Sulawesi. The registration process was opened on September 22 and will close on September 5.
The PSSI election committee has thus far received two would-be candidates, who have been nominated by vote holders in the congress, namely Edy and Moeldoko. There are 107 vote holders from 750-odd legitimate members of the national football federation.
The director of PT GTS Djoko Driyono and Arema Cronus CEO Iwan Budianto have also been nominated by several vote holders for deputy chairman post. Former PSM Makassar manager have also been touted to run for chairman.
