TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) Institute invited 28 regents to have a discussion on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. They will discuss the strategies on inflation control during the Economic Leadership for Regional Government Leader forum.
BI deputy governor Perry Warjiyo said the discussion will focus on addressing challenges in implementing policies for improving regional economies. One way is by seeking resources and economic drivers in each regency or city that will help control inflation and alleviate poverty.
"The forum will help local leaders formulate strategies to boost their local economies as well as the national," Perry said in Jakarta today, August 31, 2016.
Perry appealed to regional chiefs to innovate and diversify their local economic drivers without relying too much on the commodity sector, considering global commodity prices are still weak.
He stressed the importance of investments in the downstream sector, as well as developments in leading sectors such as tourism and agriculture.
The forum is a collaboration between BI and the District Government Association of Indonesia (APKASI) and the National Security Agency (Lemhanas). The forum is scheduled to last three days from August 31 to September 2.
