TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The odd-even traffic system has officially been in place in Jakarta on August 30. In an hour only, the police managed to bag ten cars for violating the system.
The offenders, upon asked, came up with various answers. "I do not remember the date," said an offender Hermawan Susanto, Tuesday, August 30, 2016.
Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency, Andriyansyah, said that the measure is taken to reduce traffic in Jakarta. "Almost all offenders know about this traffic system. They have a lot of excuses," said Andri.
He added that the current punishment is enough to deter (future) offenders.
The odd-even traffic system is effective today, after undergoing a month of trial. The traffic system replaces the 3 in 1 system and is expected to lead to the electronic road pricing system next year.
