TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rains on Saturday (27/8) have inundated a number of areas in South Jakarta and East Jakarta.
Head of Data Information and Public Relations of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that the floods were also caused by drainage channels that are not able to accommodate water and stream flow.
"High-intensity rains often cause flooding and inundation in Jakarta," he said through a written statement on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
Based on data from the Jakarta BNPB, floods inundated 15 sub-districts and eight districts in South Jakarta and East Jakarta.
Floods have also affected as many as 10,538 households or 31,622 people.
"However, none of the affected residents was displaced," Sutopo added.
