TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police have foiled the smuggling of turtle eggs in Tanjung Redeb, Berau Reency, East Kalimantan, on Friday night (26/8).
A total of 4,600 turtle eggs were seized as evidence, while a man with the initials SW who owns eggs, were arrested for questioning.
For the investigation process, the police involve environmental activists from conservation group ProFauna Borneo.
"We appreciate the efforts of the police to disclose the network of turtle egg trade. As a rule, turtle egg trade violates the laws," said the ProFauna Borneo coordinator, Bayu Sandi, Saturday (27/8).
Bayu also asked the police to immediately process the case.
SW was arrested at Jalan Andika, Tanjung Redeb. From him, the police seized a total of 4.600 eggs put into black plastic bags and stored in a crate.
"We do not know where the eggs would be marketed," Bayu said.
