President Jokowi to Attend G20 Summit in Shanghai

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo is scheduled to attend the G20 Summit in Shanghai and meet the Indonesian community in Shanghai and its surrounding areas.

"As leaders of 16 countries with the largest economy in the world, President Jokowi will attend the G20 summit in Hangzhou," said Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Soegeng Rahardjo in Shanghaion Friday night.

The G20 Summit will be held in Hangzhou, China on 4 to 5 September 2016.

Soegeng added that Indonesia's active role in the G20 reflects the the country’s commitment as a major player in the region, which always gives a positive contribution to creating and maintaining peace, stability and prosperity.

"On the one hand, the presence of the President Jokowi at the G20 summit this year will be a milestone also for the improvement of relations between the two countries in various fields, including trade, investment, security, and community ties two nations, " Soegeng added.

President Jokowi is scheduled to arrive in Hangzhou on Friday (2/9) afternoon and is slated to have a talk with Chinese President XI Jinping.

On Saturday (3/9), the President is scheduled to meet with the Indonesian community in Shanghai and surrounding areas. On the same day President Jokowi is scheduled to speak at the "Business-20"/B20 forum.

G20, which represents two-thirds of the population, produces 85 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) and 75 percent of global trade.

Indonesia itself has been a member of the G20 since 2009 and never missed to anned annual forum.

This year’s G20 summit is themed "Towards an Innovative, invigorated, Interconnected, and Inclusive and Interconnected Development".
