No Strong Evidence, Bagir Manan: Judge Shall Release Jessica

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Chief Justice, Bagir Manan, believes that judge needs to release Jessica Kumala Wongso if there are no incriminating evidence that she laced Mirna's coffee - leading to her death.
"In the penal law, if the judge hesitates the evidence, the defendant must be released," Bagir told Tempo Friday, August 26, 2016.
He explained that there is an obvious rule that the judge had better release a guilty person, rather than punish an innocent one.
Jessica has served a number of trials for allegedly murdering Wayan Mirna Salihin; lacing her coffee with cyanide. During the trial, prosecutors have served evidence of CCTV footage and expert testimony - all of which unable to provide solid evidence.
"Guilty before the public does not mean guilty before the law," he said.
