TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Due to a short-circuit, two Kertajaya train cars (Jakarta-Pasar Turi) were caught on fire at the Tanjung Priok train station, Thursday (8/25), at around 1:05 PM.
Before the incident, both train cars were in preparation to be departed. Luckily, the fire did not spread to other train cars.
Topa (42), a local citizen near the scene said that the fire, accompanied by thick smoke, came out at the restaurant carriage. The fire then quickly spread to another carriage.
"I see flames came out from the restaurant train car. Before the firefighter arrives, the other locals and I tried to put it out. But we failed because the train car's door was closed so we just spray water from the outside," he told.
About 15 minutes later, the firefighter arrived but they had difficulties to get in because the access to the station was through a densely populated area.
"To reach the scene, we must go through a densely populated area, and at that time the wind was very strong also. Luckily, no casualty to be found," stated Satriadi Gunawan, Head of North Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept.
As many as 8 fire trucks and 30 firefighters sent to the field to put out the fire.
