TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura I El Tari Airport Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, has tightened security surveillance in the airport, after two of its outsourcing personnels were involved in a human trafficking case in the region.
“Surveillance towards Indonesian workers in the airport will be tightened,” PT Angkasa Pura I El Tari Airport Kupang General Manager Wahyudi told Tempo on Friday, Aug 26.
Surveillance will begin at airport entrances where every passenger will undergo ID check. “In addition to ID check, a standard check will continue to be done by airport authorities,” Wahyudi said.
MF, an airport staff involved in human trafficking, remains on duty and has not been discharged, as he still awaits legal process.
33-year-old MF acts as a recruitment agent and fake ID card maker who works in the handling division at El Tari Airport Kupang. The number of his victims reached 100 people, while YLR’s victims reached 89.
The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police revealed that 13 people have been set as trafficking suspects with the total victims reaching 1,667 people in the last two years. The victims are sent to Malaysia and Medan.
