TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sports Minister, Imam Nahrawi, plans to form a sports foundation that will gather funds from the corporate sosial responsibility (CSR), which will be used in the interest of national sports.
"We will ask corporations to channel their funds for national sports," he said.
Imam added that the request can be made to cigarette company. He said that the ongoing notion of cigarette price hike can also fuel the national sports ambition.
"We do not want to face question about athlete's future," he argued.
Imam said that the government has been trying to appreciate athletes, by providing financial support. "We will give gold medalist Rp 20 million per month for the rest of his or her life; Rp 15 million for silver medalist and Rp 10 million for bronze medalist," he said. "Coach and the assistants will also receive bonus."
