TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City of Bandung will host the Indonesia Smart City Forum 2016 on September 2-3, 2016, at Trans Luxury Hotel Bandung. Smart City Forum 2016 will bring together all smart cities in Indonesia who are concerned about IT-based public services. “The aim is to have the same understanding,” Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil said Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
The forum will be attended by the National Information Technology and Communication (TIK) Council as the partner of the Communication and Informatics Ministry. “The National TIK Council will form a task force,” Ridwan Kamil said.
He said that the task force will collect all applications and IT programs owned by smart districts and cities across Indonesia. The task force will facilitate the need for information technology of all districts and cities in Indonesia.
“In the future, anyone who need [apps and technology] could simply make a report and ask for it. At present, Bandung is reluctant to take the initiative [to offer help for other cities] because we are at the same level. It needs to be done under one command and the National TIK Council will become the collector of smart city apps. Somewhere along the line, so it could become more structured,” he said.
Ridwan Kamil added that the Indonesia Smart City Forum 2016 is initiated by Bandung administration. Ridwan, who graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, the United States, is hopeful that Bandung city can adopt apps and technology owned by other smart cities to complement what the city currently has. “It’s a strategy to learn from cities who have [the apps] that Bandung doesn't have,” he said.
