TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Information and Public Relation Division head Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the SAR team has ended the search for the victims of a sunken boat headed from Tanjungpinang to Penyengat Island as the 17 victims have been found.
“All passengers and the captain of the ship who crossed from Tanjungpinang to Penyengat have been found. As many as 15 were found dead and two others survived,” Sutopo said in a written statement, Monday, August 22, 2016.
According to Sutopo, the 15 dead victims comprise of nine females and six males.
Last week, a ship heading from Tanjungpinang to Penyengat Island sunk. The ship carried 17 passengers, consisted of a captain, two children, and 14 adults. The ship sunk allegedly due to strong winds and high tide in the Penyengat waters, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands.
