TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly said that some 82,015 out of 131,954 inmates will receive remission on Indonesia's 71st Independence Day on August 17, 2016.
"We are granting them a remission. Why? Because they are also children of the nation," Yasonna said after leading a ceremony at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry's Office in Kuningan, Jakarta on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.
Yasonna said that the remission is divided into two categories: general remission 1, and general remission 2. Around 78,487 people receive general remission 1, while the other 3,258 receives general remission 2. "[Inmates] receiving remission 2 will be automatically set free," Yasonna said.
From the total remission recipients, 27 among them were terrorism convicts, 12,161 were charged for drug-related crimes, and the other 428 prisoners were corruption convicts.
