TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Transportasi Transjakarta (Transjakarta) will perform a `Tap-in and Tap-out` trial on Wednesday, Aug. 17, or coinciding with Indonesia`s Independence Day.

“The Tap In-Tap Out system test will be done tomorrow for Corridor 2 passengers enroute to Blok M-Kota,” Transjakarta Public Relations Prasetia Budi said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Previously, the system which have been used so far by Transjakarta bus passengers, only does a ticket transaction by tapping in at a barrier gate when entering a bus stop.

“With the testing of the new system, passengers will not only have to Tap In at barrier gates, but must also Tap Out when exiting Transjakarta bus stops,” Prasetia said.

Prasetia says the balance in the electronic card will be cut when Tapping In the bus stop, and will only open the gate during a Tap Out.

“So, the balance will be cut at the beginning, or during a Tap In.  There are no change in the fare regarding to the Tap Out, Transjakarta fare will remain flat for all trips, which is Rp 3,500” said Prasetia.

The system that will later apply in all Transjakarta corridors and routes aim to obtain the data of traveling passengers as the basis of creating operational bus plans.

“By setting the bus operation patterns based on the needs of the passengers,  we expect to increase services, therefore avoiding queue caused by the insufficient number of buses,” he said.
