TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian said that the condition in Tanjung Balai is now conducive following the riot that ended with the burning of a number of worship places.

"There has been a meeting between chiefs of regional police and community leaders of the Communication Forum for Religions. The condition has been stable since early Saturday," Tito  said on Sunday (31/7).

Nevertheless, Tito said nine people were arrested in the riot. Seven of them were arrested for participating in the looting, while the two others were proven through CCTV footage of participating in the violence.

Tito said that the people involved in the riot have already made a deal to maintain order and harmony in the future.

"I also led a meeting at the provincial level with local governments and community leaders to prevent such riots happening again in those areas," he said.
