TEMPO.CO, Depok - Police have apprehended a student carrying 4 grams of cannabis on Simpangan Main Road, Depok, Cilodong Subdistrict, on Thursday, July 28.  MM, 17-year-old student, is believed to be a drug messenger to fellow students.

Depok City Resort Police Narcotics Unit Chief Commissioner Putu Kholis Aryana says MM has been targeted by the police for sometime. Residents reported a drug transaction in the location.  “MM is a user and also a courier,” Putu said Friday, July 29.

The police followed up information from society saying that the location had frequently been used for drug transactions.  Authorities spotted someone with suspicious behavior and gesture.  “When approached, that person tried to escape.  Police then apprehends and frisk the suspect,” said Putu.  “The suspect carried marijuana and taken to Depok City Resort Police.”

The suspect is charged with article 114 paragraph 1 sub-article 111 paragraph 1 of Regulation No.35 Year 2009.  “The punishment is over 4 years imprisonment,” said Putu.  Narcotics unit is currently investigating the origin of the marijuana.

Depok City National Narcotics Agency Chief Adj.Senior Commissioner Syaefudin Zuhri say based on a data survey of narcotics users conducted by the National Narcotics Agency and the University of Indonesia in 2012, students and college students who became users reached 100 people.  Three among them routinely consumed drugs.

“This year, a survey will be held.  Drug users in Depok is estimated to be higher,” said Syaefudin.
