TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Japanese government has expressed its interest in accelerating Indonesia’s strategic project development, including the 35,000-MW electricity project, according to Japan-Indonesia Association President Yasuo Fukuda during a courtesy call with Indonesia’s Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Jakarta.
“Infrastructure is the foundation of economic development, and we want to contribute in this sector, particularly in the 35,000-MW electricity project development in Indonesia,” Fukuda said in a press release on Friday, July 29, 2016.
Japan’s commitment in the project development was realized by participating in the development of the Batang Steam-Fueled Power Plant (PLTU), known as the Central Java Power Plant. The project was a result of cooperation between PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia (BPI) and Japanese state-owned companies under the public-private partnership scheme.
Darmin said that he positively welcomed the commitment and would strengthen the bilateral relationship with Japan by facilitating Japanese investors to invest in Indonesia.
“When the Batang Power Plant project was hampered by a land-acquisition dispute, our office had been actively involved in addressing the issue,” Darmin said.
The Indonesian government has continued to improve the investment climate in Indonesia by releasing economic policy packages. The government has also formed a taskforce to ensure that the 12 economic policy packages are effectively implemented.
According to Darmin, one of the work units in the taskforce is assigned to disseminate and elaborate the economic policy packages to several countries, including Japan.
“I believe that a visit to Tokyo has been scheduled to elaborate the economic policy packages,” Darmin added.
