TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the National Police Gen. Tito Karnavian urged all police officers to protect tax officials and taxpayers applying for tax amnesty. The protection will be provided by coordinating with respective authorities and regional tax offices.
Tito said that he had delivered instructions to all police personnel. "First, to study the law. Second, to cooperate with regional tax office and tax authorities to protect tax officers," Tito said on Friday, July 29, 2016.
On the same occasion, Tito held a video conference together with Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), addressing all regional police chiefs, head of regional tax offices and regional representatives of Bnk Indonesia. Tito instructed police officers to help tax officers in making proper tax reports.
Tito also instructed police officers to persuade taxpayers to declare their assets. In addition, Tito reminded the officers not to alter any provisions related to tax amnesty. "There are three exemptions [on tax amnesty]: terrorism, human trafficking, and drugs," Tito said, while adding that officers must also maintain the confidentiality of tax amnesty data.
