TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The elite counterterrorism unit Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) had arrested six people allegedly involved in planning a suicide bomb attack on July 5, 2016, at Surakarta Police Precinct, Central Java. Police Public Relation Division chief Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said the six suspected terrorists were arrested on different occasions.

Two suspected terrorists, Hamzah and Haryanto, were arrested on 19 July 2016. Whereas the other four, Agus, Wawan, Winarno and Zubaidah, were arrested on July 21. “Of the six people, three have been named as suspects,” Martinus said Thursday, July 28, 2016.

“The suspects are Hamzah, Haryanto and Agus,” he said.

According to Martinus, Haryanto claimed that he was tasked to find rented property for Agus and Nur Rohman under Hamzah instruction. He had also been instructed to trade Hamzah’s motorcycle with Suzuki Nex with license paltes number AD 6136 HW to be given to Nur Rohman.

Agus claimed that he met Nur Rohman, who was on the police most wanted list (DPO). Nur Rohman asked for a hiding place and a job. “Nur Rohman was finally introduced to Wawan, Agus’ brother by the pseudonym Bayu,” Martinus said.

Wawan then introduced Nur Rohman to Winarno and Zubaidah. They gave Nur Rohman a job as a concrete block machine operator. “Winarno and Zubaidah were not aware that Nur Rohman, who used the pseudonym Bayu, was on the DPO,” he said.

Nur Rohman was the suicide bomber at Surakarta Police Precinct. Previously, the 30-year-old man hailed from Sangkrah Village, Pasar Kliwon Sub-district, Surakarta, was a fugitive in relation to a series of terror attacks in other locations.
