President Jokowi to Swear in New Ministers at 1:30 PM

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will announce the cabinet reshuffle today, Wednesday, July 27, 2016. The cabinet reshuffle will be made in several sectors, namely the economics, politics, legal, security and social welfare. “People’s support is key to government success,” President Jokowi wrote on his official Twitter account.

Regarding the cabinet reshuffle, a letter bearing the letterhead of the State Secretary Minister of the Republic of Indonesia has been circulating around. The letter contains the agenda of the inauguration of working cabinet ministers for 2014-2019 period. The inauguration will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the State Palace.

The President had summoned a number of minister Tuesday evening to the State Palace. The President summoned several ministers, namely Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chirsnandi, Trade Minister Thomas Lembong, National Development Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil, Industry Minister Saleh Husin, and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan.

Reports said that the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan would be appointed as the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, replacing Rizal Ramli. Rizal Ramli was said to have been dismissed from his post. Luhut would be replaced with the People’s Consciousness Party (Hanura) chairman Wiranto.

Asman Abnur would be the Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister, replacing Yuddy Chirsnandi, while Malang Muhammadiyah University president Muhajir would be the National Education Minister, replacing Anies Baswedan.

A huge change would be made in the economic sector. Bambang Brodjonegoro would be replaced by former World Bank official Sri Mulyani Indrawati as Finance Minister. Bambang Brodjonegoro himself would replace Sofyan Djalil as the National Development Planning Minister. Sofyan would be given the post of Agriculture and Spatial Planning Minister, replacing Ferry Mursyidan Baldan.

In addition, the Functional Group Party politician Karya Airlangga Hartanto would be appointed as the Industry Minister, replacing Saleh Husin. Whereas Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan would be replaced with Angkasa Pura II President Director Budi Karya.
