TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will prepare a more comprehensive food policy to ensure the sustainability of main commodities, such as rice, beef, sugar, and corn, according to Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution.
Darmin pointed out that several prices of several food commodities have increased after the Lebaran holiday. Therefore, related ministries have planned to reassess the development of food prices over the last few days.
"[Prices of] beef, onion, and sugar are still high. Meanwhile the rice [price] is more stable. The President has set a target to implement the [new] policy within three months. We will discuss this further," Darmin said during a meeting at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.
Attending the meeting were Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong and State-owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno. Other state officials attending the meeting were Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency head ANdi Eka Sakya, State Logistics Agency head Djarot Kusumayakti, and officials from the Industry Ministry and the National Development Planning Agency.
