TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratman, who also serves as the Singaporean Finance Minister, said to Indonesian Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro that his country had no intention of hampering the tax amnesty program.
Despite the assurance, Bambang said that the government would remain cautious.
“We will remain cautious. We want to make this tax amnesty program to be successful, particularly in terms of fund repatriation,” Bambang said at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Monday, July 25, 2016.
Bambang and Mr. Shanmugaratman held a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Chengdu, China, to discuss the Indonesias tax amnesty program.
"The Singaporean Deputy PM told me directly that Singapore had no intention of hampering the tax amnesty program in Indonesia," Bambang explained.
Earlier, the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo), the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and tax observers exposed Singapore's attempt to lure Indonesian taxpayers not to repatriate their funds back to Indonesia. Apindo revealed that Singapore had promised to pay two percent of the asset declaration tariff and tax repatriation, as well as offering taxpayers with Singaporean citizenships.
