TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly confirmed that foreign workers entering Indonesia will continue to be monitored. Yasonna predicted that at least 70,000 foreign workers will enter Indonesia every year.
Yasonna asserted that 70,000 can be considered normal compared to the number of Indonesian population, which currently reaches up to 220 million people. "Don't act as if we are being invaded by foreign workers," Yasonna said on Monday, July 25, 2016.
Yasonna explained that up until mid-2016, there are 15,000 foreign workers from China that have entered Indonesia. Yasonna calculated, based on
Yasonna asserted that the inflow of foreign workers in Indonesia was triggered by keep project work system implemented by foreign investors. Yasonna said that foreign workers have higher productivity rate compared to local workers. "Therefore, we have to increase our work capacity," Yasonna said.
Minister Yasonna said that successful application of the Tax Amnesty program will be able to help create more infrastructure projects that can absorb higher number of laborers. In addition, Yasonna stated that the government will encourage the creation of more skilled laborers through vocational schools.
