TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Aceh Singkil administration, in collaboration with the Aceh Culture and Tourism Agency, holds a festival in Banyak Islands on July 24 and 25, 2016, to promote the region’s tourism potential.

Aceh Culture and Tourism Agency head Reza Pahlevi said that the tourism potential in the region must be developing.

“Tourists can enjoy snorkeling, diving, art and culture attractions, as well as local culinary,” Reza said in a press release received by Tempo on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

According to Reza the festival that features Singkil cultural diversity, fishing tournament, and information technology-based tourism will be concentrated in Balai Island.

The Banyak Islands are occupied by various ethnicities, such as Aceh, Minangkabau, Batak, Nias and others.

The festival also features traditional dances.

As many as 70 people have been registered as participants in the fishing tournament. Among trainings held in the festival are tour guide training, culinary management training, snorkeling training, dive guide and homestay management training.

“The tourism sector is expected to improve the economy in Banyak Islands,” Reza added.

Reza explained that his agency invited bloggers, photographers and travel writers to Banyak Islands back in 2015.

“This year, we invite online and print mass media to attend the Banyak Islands Festival,” he said.

Reza hopes that the Banyak Island Festival will become an annual event to attract more visitors.
