TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fire gutted a motorcycle workshop in Jalan Fatmawati Village Cilandak, South Jakarta on Sunday (27/4) at 3:30 am.
"We suspect the fire originated from short-circuits in the workshop. When the incident happened, no one was in the garage," said Head of South Jakarta Fire Department Irwan on Sunday.
A total of nine fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the fire and the fire could be contained at 5 am.
The fire squads also made sure the fire would not spread to other buildings. The fire could be completely extinguished at 06:10.
Irwan said that officers on the ground had trouble putting out the fire because the garage door was closed.
"If it is closed or during the night, the rolling door is usually locked," Irwan said.
Following the fire, the workshop’s building covering an area of 8x6 meter and its contents were burned down.
According to Irwan workshop was filled with spare parts and motorcycle accessories.
Financial losses due to fire was estimated to reach $1 billion.
No fatalities or injuries were reported in this incident.
