Minister Susi to Provide Insurance Cover to 1 Million Fishermen

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry will launch an insurance program for Indonesian fisherman in August 2016. The insurance is expected to push them to be more independent in improving their catch productivity.
“Minister Susi wants fishermen to be more independent. [The insurance] has affordable premiums, it also has huge benefits,” said the Director for Fisheries Syafril Fuzi at Mina Bahari III building Thursday, 21 July, 2016.
The Ministry is mulling over the most appropriate, affordable insurance for fishermen. It has earmarked Rp250 billion for insurance premium for one million fishermen.
The insurance may be disbursed in the city where the fishermen reside. In addition, fishermen will be given insurance card and receive explanation on their rights as the holder.
It will cover death from accident, natural death during work and occupational accident treatment.
