TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) chairman Hariyadi Sukamdani said that the business community had expressed optimism that the tax amnesty policy would help with the economic recovery in Indonesia.
“The tax amnesty [policy] will expand tax bases and increase the tax ratio,” Hariyadi said in Jakarta on Thursday, July 21, 2016.
According to Hariyadi, the policy will boost the economic growth through investment realizations.
However, Hariyadi pointed out that the success of the policy would depend on several factors, such as the fairness of tax assessment, law enforcement for delinquent taxpayers, and favorable business climate.
“In addition, it needs to be supported with information technology related to taxation, laws and regulations, and dissemination,” he added.
In addition, Hariyadi believes that political support is also necessary as shown by the government. However, several individuals had tried to hamper the implementation of the tax amnesty bill, by filing a lawsuit against it.
Hariyadi expressed optimism such an effort to hamper the implementation of the tax amnesty bill would fail, due to huge government support and high public enthusiasm. Hariyadi hopes that taxpayers will participate in the tax amnesty program.
