TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Marine and Fisheries Affairs Ministry Susi Pudjiastuti said that her Ministry has filed for a cassation in response to the Tanjung Pinang Court decision. The Court recently decided to release illegal fishing suspects.
"[The decision] is not in accordance with the spirit to eradicate illegal fishing in Indonesia," Susi said on Monday, July 18, 2016.
Susi added that the Selin ship, registered under the Equatorial Nugini flag and its crew of 13 people, was released free of charges.
"We filed a cassation so we can win [the case]," Susi said.
Based on Susi's statement, the cassation was filed back on July 11, 2016. Susi added that based on national consensus, illegal fishing suspects must be captured, while their yield must be confiscated and their ship sunk.
Susi reiterated that she will never take sides on eradicating illegal fishing. Susi also requested the media to monitor the process of the cassation. "We want illegal, unreported, and unregistered fishing to be dealt with firmly and properly," Susi said.
