TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of Eid holiday travellers at Soekarno-Hatta airport this year is 8 percent bigger than that of last year.
Hemi Pamuraharjo, head of Communication and Public Information Bureau of the Transportation Ministryon Sunday (3/7) said one of the reasons is that this year’s Eid holiday is longer, which is four days before the day, which is estimated to fall on 6 July.
"This year, the holiday is longer, from Saturday until Tuesday,” Hemi said on Sunday.
The longer holiday this year has also resulted in a more even distribution of holiday travellers, he added.
Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has reportedly monitored the condition of the airport on Friday.
It was also reported that from 32 slots of extra flights proposed, only five of them were used and the airport was getting more crowded of people but there was no build up of passengers reported.
In the meantime, Nusyirwan Soejono, member of the Commission V of the House of Representatives (DPR) overseeing transportation and infrastructure, who also monitored the condition of the airport, said that the preparation of the airport for this year’s Ied Holiday is better.
