TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration has sent a letter to President Joko Widodo about the Joint Committee's decision on the termination of Jakarta Bay Reclamation of G Island.
Deputy Governor for Spatial Planning and Environment Oswar Muadzin Mungkasa said the letter was intended to explain the case to President Jokowi.
"We are asking for a second opinion to the President," said Oswar at City Hall, Friday, July 1, 2016.
Oswar said the decision to send a letter was made after he was summoned by the Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).
The meeting was also attended by Chief of the General Bureau of Yayan Yuhanah, City Planning Bureau Chief Vera Refina Sari, and Assistant Secretary of the Regional Development Sinurat Gamal, and the Head of the Regional Development Agency Tuty Kusumawati.
For the record, the Joint Committee considers the G Island development is categorized as a serious violation.
The reason was that the reclamation of the island threatens the environment, the object of vital strategic, ports and sea traffic, among other vital objects is Muara Karang Steam Power Plant, which is just 300 meters from the island.
Oswar explained, reclaiming 17 islands in the North Coast Jakarta is one unit and cancellation G Island reclamation would affect other islands.
According to him, violations on the island of C and D categories are even more severe. Both islands were merged and transformed into a single landmass, he added.
