TEMPO.CO, Brebes-The contraflow system has been implemented from Jalan Brebes Timur to the City of Tegal, Central Java, starting from Friday, July 1, 2016, after the traffic congestion began to increase.
Based on Tempo’s observation, traffic jams often occurred at Brebes-Tegal route before the system was implemented. The congestion occurred since the vehicle volume from East Brebes toll road increased significantly.
In Tegal, traffic jams occurred along Jalan Kaligangsa to Tegal Terminal. Vehicles began disperse at the east of terminal fork since people were heading to the north ring road, while others preferred to pass Tegal.
The traffic congestion began to decrease after Police implemented the 3:1 system. Vehicles from Jakarta used three lanes, while those from Semarang use one lane. Police installed cones along the southern lanes starting from East Brebes fork to Tegal.
Dozens of officers have been deployed to direct the traffic, concentrated at the East Brebes fork and Tegal City border.
Brebes Precinct Police traffic division head Adj. Comr. Arfan Zulkhan Sipayung said that his office would continue to coordinate with the Tegal Precinct Police station to implement the contraflow system.
“The contraflow system will be implemented until the traffic congestion in East Brebes is reduced,” he said.
