TEMPO.CO, Geneva-Indonesia Ambassador to the United Nation in New York Dian Triansyah Djani lead a meeting session to discuss Palestine-Israel peace prospect at the UN headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
The meeting was held during the United Nations International Conference in Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace by the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (the Palestine Committee).
“The meeting session was important, since it discussed opportunities and challenges in promoting peace in Palestine and Israel, including examples of other international conflict resolutions and further steps,” Ambassador Djani said in a press release received by Tempo on Friday, July 1, 2016.
Djani called on the international community to promote peace in Palestine and Israel and to be creative in seeking conflict resolution models that could be accepted by both countries.
The international conference was one of Palestine Committee’s activities in raising international supports for the Palestinian people. The conference was attended by delegations of UN members in Geneva, Palestinian government representatives, academicians, NGOs, and media from Palestine, Israel and Middle Eastern countries.
One of the issues being discussed in the meeting was the role of NGOs in supporting diplomacy efforts initiated by governments and international organizations. Ambassador Djani viewed that NGOs from Indonesia have the capacity to play a key role in promoting peace in Palestine and Israel.
He added that NGOs could also support Indonesian government in the extraordinary Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) summit and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi’s participation in the Paris Conference.
