TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said that the passing of the tax amnesty bill would be followed by revisions of three laws currently being proposed by the government.
“After the tax amnesty [bill], there will be revisions of laws on general provisions of taxes, value added taxes and income taxes,” Jokowi said when opening the tax amnesty program launching at the Directorate General of Taxes on Friday, July 1, 2016.
The tax amnesty program launching was held in response to the passing of the Tax Amnesty Bill. Attending the event were a number of ministers and former Functional Group (Golkar) Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie.
Programs governed by the Tax Amnesty Bill include the write-off of unpaid taxes and criminal charges for delinquent taxpayers. In return, they are required to declare their assets and pay the tax amnesty tariff.
However, Jokowi did not specify articles to be revised in the taxation bills. He asserted that the revisions would be necessary to make Indonesia competitive in terms of taxation.
President said that other countries took similar steps to make them competitive in the taxation sector.
“There will be a follow up. Otherwise, our country will not be able to compete with other countries,” he said.
