TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Central Statistics Agency (BPS) head Suryamin said that the inflation rate in June 2016 stood at 0.66 percent with a consumer price index of 124.29.
“The inflation rate in June is under control approaching the Lebaran [Eid] holiday,” Suryamin said at the BPS office in Jakarta on Friday, July 1, 2016.
Suryamin added that all 82 consumer-index-price cities saw inflation. The highest inflation rate occurred in Pangkal Pinang, which stood at 21 percent with an IHK of 127.07 percent. Meanwhile, Padang saw the lowest inflation rate at 0.10 percent with an IHK of 127.38.
Suryamin revealed that the inflation was caused by increases in commodity prices, namely air transportation tariff, broiler chicken, fresh fish, broiler eggs, sugar, potato, carrot, rice, spinach, apple, electricity, gold jewelry, and land transportation tariff.
Meanwhile, onion had been a commodity that contained the inflation rate due to its price decrease by 10.19 percent.
“The decrease in onion price was caused by abundant supplies at production centers,” he said.
Suryamin explained that the price increase was reflected by rises in all spending group indexes. Food experienced the highest price increase at 1.62 percent. Clothing recorded price increase of 0.70 percent, and transportation, communication and financial services saw price increase of 0.63 percent.
In addition, processed food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco prices increased by 0.58 percent. In the housing, utilities and fuel group, the price increase by 0.15 percent. Health, education, recreation and sports increased by 0.34 percent and 0.03 percent, respectively.
The largest contributors to the inflation were foods, processed food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco, as well as transportation communication and financial services. The three groups contributed 0.34 percent, 0.11 percent and 0.12 percent to the inflation rate, respectively.
