TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transport Ministry and Banten's National Narcotics Agency (BNN) officers are subjecting airline pilots and cabin crews to mandatory drug testing at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 - at six drug-test check points that are spread across the airport's vicinity.
"These tests are carried out to ensure the safety of all passengers, who will be travelling through the hub during the 2016 Ramadan Homecoming season," said Banten's BNN Deputy for Public Engagement, Insp. Gen. Ari Bachtiar Tambunan.
The testing for cabin crew is known to have commenced since 04.00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). To carry out the tests, BNN officers approach cabin crews who were on standby for their flights at Terminal 1A, 1B, 1C, as well as the offices of AirAsia and Garuda Indonesia.
Bachtiar aims to subject 600 cabin crews and pilots to the urine tests - but as per this afternoon, only 400 cabin crews have undergone the test.
