TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta interbank spot dollar rate (Jisdor) this morning gained 42 points, allowing the rupiah to be traded for Rp 13,146 a dollar. The rupiah gain happened as soon as the House of Representatives passed the Tax Amnesty Bill into a law.
"The ratification of the tax amnesty bill is a breath of fresh air that can help the rupiah strengthens further," NH Korindo Securities Indonesia chief researcher Reza Priyambada said Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
Rangga Cipta, an economist with Samuel Sekuritas, said the rupiah also got a push from the diminishing chances for a Fed Rate hike and improving commodity prices.
Bisnis Indonesia reported that the rupiah closed the spot market with a 0.24 percent gain (31 points) at Rp 13,157 per dollar.
Along with the rupiah, Southeast Asian currencies strengthened, led by Malasyia's ringgit (+0.91%) and the Singapore dollar (+0.32%). Behind Indonesia is the Thailand baht (+0.11%) and Filipina peso (+0.10%).
