TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-The tax amnesty bill will be deliberated in the plenary meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) today, June 28, 2016. In a mini hearing among factions last night, all factions in the House’s Financial Commission have agreed to proceed the deliberation on the bill in a plenary meeting.
Chairman of the Working Committee for Tax Amnesty Bill Soepriyatno is optimistic that the bill will be passed today. “All factions have agreed to proceed to the plenary. Even though some factions have had objections, but it’s normal in democracy,” Soepriyatno told Tempo.
Last night, three factions, namely the Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS), Democratic Party and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), submitted their note of objection over the tax amnesty bill. They had objections on the redemption rates that they thought should be in accordance with the Law on Tax General Provisions.
Soepriyatno considered that it would be unreasonable to set redemption rates according to the Law on General Tax Provision, i.e. 10-25 percent. “Countries have implemented the same tax amnesty rates by an average of 5 percent. The note of objection from several factions will be noted,” said the politician of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
A member of House’s Commission XI from PDIP, Hendrawan Soepratikno, said that his faction has agreed to pass the tax amnesty bill and to subsequently submit it to President Joko Widodo to be enacted into law. PDIP would no longer submit a note of objection in the plenary meeting. “We have expressed [the objection] to the President and in a mini hearing among factions,” he said.
According to Soepriyatno, the tax amnesty bill will be implemented from July 1 to March 31, 2017. Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said that the government will immediately disseminate the law after its passage. “If it’s been passed, we will disseminate it immediately on Wednesday,” Bambang told Tempo on Monday evening, June 27, 2016.
