TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brig. Gen. Agung Setya, director of special economic crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Corps (Bareskrim), said that five regions have been affected by fake vaccine dissemination.
"[Fake vaccines] are found in Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Semarang and Medan," Agung said at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
Agung added that Baresrim immediately conducted lab tests on fake vaccines to discover types of vaccines faked by perpetrators in the five regions.
Agung confirmed that the dissemination of the fake vaccines is still limited in domestic markets only.
Drug and Food Monitoring Agency (BPOM) head of investigation center Hendri Siswandi said that the BPOM has been watching the dissemination of fake vaccines since 2010. Back in 2010 and 2014, the BPOM exposed a house in Medan producing fake vaccines.
Hendri said that the BPOM had instructed its regional branches to inspect vaccine production facilities. Hendri said that the BPOM is committed to helping police to investigate the case.
"We will provide contribution to the investigation, by conducting tests on fake vaccines. In addition, we will provide expertise assistance," Hendri said.
