TEMPO.CO, JakartaSome 155 Persija supporters were arrested by the Jakarta Police after a clash erupted during Jakarta-based soccer team Persija's match against South Sumatras Sriwijaya football club at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium Friday evening.

"At least 150 supporters were taken into custody after the clash," Jakarta Police spokesman, Senior Commissioner Awi Setiyono, said on Saturday.

Persija`s match against the Sriwijaya football club had earlier been called off due to a riot.

After Persija goalkeeper failed to secure the ball, fans ran onto the pitch. Other Persija supporters broke down the fence dividing sector 13 and 14 in an attempt to access the field.

Officers tried to control Persija supporters who threw projectiles at them.

Five officers were injured and 19 supporters experienced breathlessness and chest pain.

"Five motorcycles were burnt and two cars were damaged," Awi revealed.

"Three people were critically injured and were undergoing treatment at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital," he added.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has criticized Persija supporters for vandalizing the stadium.

The governor instructed the police to punish those who had vandalized the facilities at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium.

"Such violence happens repeatedly because the perpetrators are not prosecuted," he argued.
