Gov`t Encourages Textile Product Diversification

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Ministry is encouraging Indonesian textile industries order to develop or diversify products for fashion needs.

It said that the step is considered important in line with the development fashion industries and design creations by designers.

"Diversification is a strategic move," said Industry Minister Saleh Husin in a press release, on Saturday (26/6).

Saleh added that the reason for diversification as a strategic move is because of the current development of the market demand for raw materials for fashion products is relatively high.

Unfortunately, he added, most of the raw materials are imported.

The Ministry noted that the development of the textile industry and textile products (TPT) in the last two years have been stagnant, both in domestic and international markets and this is the result of a slowing world economy.
