TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the Brexit referendum results that said that Britain is out of the European Union (Brexit) will create ta new political and economic order in the UK and Europe.
However, she said the direct impact of the referendum will be felt in the next two years approximately.
"The results of the referendum in the UK are not necessarily directly applicable because Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union must be activated and the process of negotiations between the UK and the European Union must take place to agree on the Withdrawal Agreement," Retno said in a written statementon Sunday (26/6).
Retno added the withdrawal agreement is required to regulate trade tariffs, the freedom of movement of workers (freedom of movement for workers), financial arrangements, as well as legal status of English in various EU international agreements with other countries.
In terms of politics, according to Retno, Brexit direct impact for Indonesia is not significant.
Indonesian-English partnership priorities and the partnership between Indonesia and the European Union also are believed not to change.
"We believe the results of the referendum will not affect bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UK," she added.
