TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Transport Agency plans to commence the socialisation of its' odd-even number plate restriction on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
"The socialisation period will begin on June 28 and will continue until July 6, 2016," said the Head of Jakarta's Transport Agency, Andri Yansyah, in Jakarta on Saturday, June 25, 2016. "The actual trial itself, will begin on July 27, and will end on August 26, 2016."
According to Andri, the odd-even number plate restrictions on Jakarta's main thoroughfares is a part of the Administration's transitional plan to reduce congestion, prior to the application of the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) scheme in the capital.
"Once the trial period ends, we will apply the odd-even number plate restriction on Jakarta's main thoroughfares - beginning on August 30, 2016," said Andri.
The main thoroughfares in question where the odd-even number plate restrictions will be applied are stretches within the city where the old 3-in-1 zones - namely Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Jl. MH Thamrin, Jl. Sudirman, Jl. SIsingamangaraja, and the stretch along Jl. Gatot Subroto between the Kuningan Intersection and Gerbang Pemuda.
The restrictions, continued Andri, will be applied and enforced from Monday to Friday, between 07:00 and 10:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), as well as between 16:00 and 20:00 WIB. The restrictions will not be enforced during weekends, as well as public holidays.
"Under this new scheme, vehicles whose number plates end with an even number will be allowed to pass through the restricted areas on even-numbered dates, while vehicles whose registration number end with an odd number could only pass the restricted area on odd numbered dates," said Andri, before adding that for the purposes of enforcing this regulation, 'zero' is considered an even number.
"I would like to make it clear that this regulation does not forbid cars with even numbered plates to operate during odd-numbered dates - they are merely restricted from passing certain areas during certain periods of time during the weekday," said Andri.
