TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Syarkawi Rauf, Head of the Commission for Supervision of Businness Compeition (KPPU) said that the KPPU will request for clarification from two cellular operators PT Telkomsel and PT Indosat in connection with an alleged monopoly practice.
"We will clarify the allegation saying that Telkomsel has conducted monopoly practices," Syarkawi said at the Coordinating Economic Ministry office in Jakarta on Friday, June 24, 2016.
Syarkawi revealed that Telkomsel has allegedly own 80 percent of the telecommunicaion market share outside Java based on reports released by a number of individuals. Meanwhile, a company owning a market share is prohibited to cause damages against competitors by conducting monopoly practices.
"In this case, Telkomsel has allegedly bought Indosat's SIM cards," Syarkawi added.
Meanwhile, the KPPU summoned Indosat in connection with the Rp 1-per-second rate.
"We will clarify whether the tariff is reasonable," Syarkawi said.
Syarkawi explained that the KPPU received information about the rate from mass media and took the initiative. In addition, Syarkawi said that he saw the proof of Indosat's SIM card purchases by Telkomsel from advertising images.
Earlier, PT Indosat president director Alexander Rusli called on his staff to restrain themselves from being involved in advertisement wars against other providers. Meanwhile, PT Telkomsel Vice President of Corporate Communication Adita Irawati said that her company had no plans of reporting Indosat to the KPPU for conducting unhealthy business practices.
