TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - T. B. Hasanuddin, Chief of Commission I of the House of Representatives asserted that the Indonesian Army does not need to mobilize more troops or reinforce its military base in Natuna sea following the escalating tension between Indonesia and China. Nevertheless, Hasanuddin urged the military to remain on alert.
"[The army] must be ready to defend itself if really necessary," Hasanuddin said on Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
Tension in Natuna sea continues to excalate following the recent capture of the Han Tan Cou 19038, a Chinese-flagged ship, by Indonesian Navy warship KRI Imam Bonjol last Friday, June 17, 2016.
Back on Friday, two Chinese coast guard ships, urged KRI Imam Bonjol to release the Han Tan Cou 19038.
Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, the Indonesian Army Chief of Staff previously stated that the Indonesian army has taken anticipation measures to secure the Indonesian Special Economic Zone. "Our anticipation step was to capture [the ship]," Gatot said.
