TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Civil Society Coalition considers that the nomination of Commissioner General Tito Karnavian as police chief by President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo does not violate procedures.
Therefore, the President has the right to refuse or accept the recommendation of the Board Position and Rank High (Wanjakti) Police, the coalition said.
In the meantime, researcher at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation Erwin Nastomal even said that Wanjakti does not have rights to recommend the name of chief police candidates.
"Wanjakti only has the rights to determine ranks under the National Police Chief," he said at in Jakarta on Sunday (19/6).
Erwin added said the lawsuit to the President related to procedural error because the President refused to consider the recommendations of Police Observer Society (Mapol) is a baseless argument.
